Upromote is a useful tool, although it can take a while to run. Promoting to
a DC seems to take only a few minutes but I spent 9 hours one night demoting
a DC to a member server - changing the SID on everything took forever and I
was at work until 4am. On top of that, the domain SAM was converted to be
the local SAM on the demoted server, taking all file and share permissions
with it. That took a bit of sorting out the next day.

There is a thirth party tool on the market that can change the role of a =

PDC/BDC/member server without having to re-install the system. I have =
=3D
never used it.......and I don't have a name........
I'll try to find the name for that tool.

I could be totally off on this, but when I installed NT Server at home
years ago when I had no idea what I was doing, I posted this question to
a list like this after looking everywhere I could think of in NT. The
answer I got was I had to reinstall the OS. I know that it asks you
when you set it up if you want the server to be a domain controller or
not, but jeez, you think there'd be an option after the fact! Oh well.
Now's your chance to install 2K Server.
