Does anyone know how to stop Windows XP from trying to autodetect a
connected printer when it logs on? I only want to disable the printer
autodetection not detection of other devices such as USB disks so just
disabling plug and play service doesn't help. Anyone know a registry hack
for this?

I also know about the tick box under devices to disable plug and play but
that box is unchecked on the LPT port so that isn't it either.

The problem we are having is a printer is installed as admin and when a user
logs on they do not have sufficient privs to install the driver and get an
error message asking for a username and password to access the hardware
installation wizard.

Thanks for any suggestions.
