Maybe someone played a practical joke on you and replaced your shell
command or deleted it. I've done that on April Fools before. Try this:

Log on
Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up task manager
File - New task
Regedit
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Ensure that Shell=3DExplorer.exe

If shell<>explorer.exe, set it to that. Ctrl+Alt+Delete, log off and
back on.

If shell=3Dexplorer.exe, run iexplore.exe from File---New task. Go get
SP3 and install it.

That's what I'd do anyway.

I have a W2K laptop that will not fully load. After the ctr-alt-del
prompt and after you enter your password and you have heard the lovely
windows tune, nothing happens. Even in safe mode and while trying to
load the recovery console. Any ideas?

Thanks
