[windows2000] Re: Win2k DHCP

I have never thought it was an accident on Microsoft's part that their =
new stuff never quite works right with their old stuff. If it wasn't =
painful to continue to run Windows 98, you would never upgrade and that =
does not help them and their executives to be the richest people in the =
world.=20

I don't think its deliberate either, but they don't exactly have any =
incentive to fix it for you. What are you going to do if they never fix =
it? Nothing. At worst you will break down and shell out the money for =
their new software which is what they wanted you to do in the first =
place.

They're both getting Win2k in the future, I haven't had any problems =
like
this anything NT'ish at all. Wintendo just stinks, that's pretty much =
it.
However, I still have quite a few wintendo clients out there and due to =
MS
licensing being a communist regime we can't really upgrade them without
significant cost... =20

I'd still like to fix the Win2k DHCP service though... *sigh* =
Sometimes, I
think I'd rather be a plumber.

Thanks,
Aaron

I feel for ya. I have not seen this happen in Windows 2000 Pro. Bosses =
=3D
and Presidents like to be on the cutting edge. You might be able to use =
=3D
this as an opportunity to convince that they deserve the added power of =
=3D
Win2k Pro.

I do have to add that my Linux at home experiment is going extremely =3D
well :)

Unfortunately for me some of those people include my boss and the =3D
president
of the company... :) Gotta love Wintendo!

no, but I can say that I run into some of the same problems with the =
=3D3D
Win98 clients. I only have one or two since we are mostly thin here but =
=3D
=3D3D
I have seen it happen.

:) That's not so much of an option here, although I'd like it to be. =

Anyone fixed the Win2k DHCP service?

Thanks,
Aaron

We had trouble with our Win2K DHCP server not giving out IP addresses =
=3D
=3D3D
(there
were plenty available, including some machines that had valid leases but
couldn't get the IP address) - again only to certain machines (these =
=3D
=3D3D
were
Win2K Pro or Linux desktops). You could do IPCONFIG /RELEASE then =3D3D
IPCONFIG
/RENEW to sort the issue but you had to log on to the client first !
SO ....
We removed DHCP from the W2K box and installed a Linux DHCP server based =
=3D
=3D3D
on
Redhat 7.2 - Never had ANY problems with that one ! ! !

We don't see this in all of our windows 98 clients, and all the machines =

on the same network as the DHCP server, no relays are in place.

We did not have this problem when we were running on the Windows NT 4.0 =

service. Anyone see something like this?=3D3D20
