They must be blocking outgoing ICMP (either on firewall or router) at = your work..... -----Original Message----- From: Costanzo, Ray [mailto:rcostanzo@xxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 8:37 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Trace route Hi list, No one where I work can answer this, so maybe someone here will know why. Any time I do a trace route to a remote destination somewhere, say to microsoft.com, it is only two hops. One from my computer to our router on our network that is connected to the rest of the world, and then from the router to the destination. So, let's say my computer's IP is 192.168.0.50, and our Internet-connected router (my gateway) is 192.168.0.1, this is what all my tracerts look like: Tracing route to xx.xx.xx.xx over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 153 ms 83 ms 83 ms xx.xx.xx.xx Trace complete. Can anyone explain to me why I don't see any other hops that I would see if I did this from home (where I use a dsl router) or if I were using a dial-up connection? Just curious. Thanks, Ray at work ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
