I would second that, management of thin client devices can be difficult for something supposedly simple. we use Rapport to manage 2000+ devices, and its quite limited in what it can do in a granular sense. Rapport is good for pushing out images, but i've had quite stupid and unexpected results from pushing out configurations even after thoroughly testing them on my test terminals. our main problems with wyse are power problems, random resets of configs, and the keyboard and mouse will freeze up too, session is still fine though (excluding mouse and keyboard). which means the user has to reboot the terminal. supposedly these are all due to the power issues everyone seems to complain about with wyse. we've had multiple images from Wyse without any resolution of the problem. we've also had trouble with wyse terminals over wireless circuits where they would contantly drop out. that being said, the only other brand of thin client's i've used are HP/Compaq T20's. they were ok, but are now made by wyse i believe. i've never heard bad things about Neoware though.... cheers, lachlan. -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Greg Reese Sent: March 27, 2006 1:37 PM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: Thin Client Project you will find thin client preferences to be pretyt much like server preferences. It almost becomes a religious debate about who makes the best servers. We all know it's IBM, but some people, weirdos really, think it is HP or Dell. thin clients are the same. the camps are divided. I am sure you can find someone who has a horror story from dealing with Neoware. a big thing to consider with thin clients is how to manage them. They all have some sort of central management tool. some companies charge for it, and some do not. Some are complicated and require dedicated back end servers and databses. some can be run from a desktop. Some do both. Find out about managing them before you buy. All thin client manufacturers will send you a demo unit and let you run their management tools during the demo. Take them up on it and give them Pepsi challenge and see who comes out on top.
