[windows2000] Re: Remote Backup Solutions

I've used robocopy in the past, and still do for some replication, but it backs-up the entire file, which can be time consuming if large database files are being changed. I'm looking for 2 solutions. a. Only copies the part of the files that are changed - keeps the replication time down. b. If I have 2 servers - identical hardware - one at each location ... I want the 2nd server to be as close to live (within 30 minutes up-to-date) as possible.

Thanks
Dave

I would check out robo copy. We recently used this to replicate the entire
file structure for a Master Controller when upgrading that server. I also
just set it up for an offsite domain control to replicate the users
profile\home directories to our master controller. We then back up that
server with veritas backup exec. Once Robcopy completes it's first job it
only copies files that have changed and you can direct it to save a log file
to ensure everything is working as it should. Robo copy can also copy the
folder\file rights and permissions, you can set the amount of bandwidth it
use's within the program. You can schedule it as a task or use a switch to
determine the time frame it replicates files and folders. And its free
windows download. You have to look at you disaster recovery plan and use
what meets your goals.

What if I want to create my own internal EVault type solution? Any
recommendations?

Thanks
Dave
