Hi Rod

A PDC Emulator is a FSMO role used in a mixed domain to act like the PDC to
the NT 4.0 servers.

Thanks

Russell

Subject: [windows2000] PDC Emulator

I'm taking the 2154 class ("Implementing and Administering Microsoft
Windows 2000 Directory Services"). And, as I've mentioned on this list
before, I'm a Windows 2000 administer, by virtue of the fact that the
regular system administer has quit.

OK, so I'm asking what for most of you is a simple question. In class,
the instructor has mentioned several times something called a "PDC
Emulator". I know, from NT domains, that "PDC" stands for "Primary
Domain Controller". From this class I'm getting the distinct feeling
that in a Windows 2000 Active Directory network, in native mode, that
there isn't a primary domain controller. =20

So, what is the "PDC Emulator"?
