Oh dear... And I thought I'd been around. My first BBS's were at college on
a 1200 baud modem... Then I began running one, then another, then all the
way up to a 32 line Galacticomm BBS. I went to work for a company that
thought it would be good to use it as a support system for their software,
but turned out they made more by charging kids like us for the the chat and
gaming aspects. We went to the first OneBBSCon at the Broadmoor in Colorado
Springs, and we saw the first 24.4 Zoom modems... We bought 32 of 'em on the
spot. <laugh>

When I was poking around on Google Groups, I found a bunch of posts I made
way back in 1992 from my BBS trying to get Linux 0.92 up and running on a WD
FAST7000 SCSI controller. Jeeeez...it makes you really realize just how far
we've all come in just 10 years.

I actually did start out on a 300baud modem. Paid $300 for the 14.4 when it
came out...yeah I was blazing then!

Oh, don't get me wrong.. Like I said, I've got about 20 years of training..
I started with 110 baud acoustical modems when I was 6 years old... LOL

I remember the old WWIV bbs's.. Those were great!!

In IT you're stone-age. ;-)

I'm 32 this year, and some of the more computer-litterate phd-students here
at the dept gaze at me in awe when telling them I've used 2k4-modems for
quite a few years doing FidoNET and BBSing "back in the days". Then took the
step to the twice-as-fast 4k8 modems and so on. 8-) Broadband is as common
as air to them. It's not more than about ten years ago, maybe less. 8-)
