[windows2000] OT: IBM RAID 5i backup battery

I have a RAID card that IBM director is reporting has a backup battery
that is failing.
My question if I shut down the server, yank the card and replace the
backup battery will it break my array?
Backup implies it's just a backup and the info is stored else where.
Can you make me feel better?
