"wireless" and "security" in the same system frightens me. Especially "Physical Security". A buddy once installed a wireless alarm system. It appeared to work great, until the first time that the cordless phone rang when it wasn't on the cradle, and the alarm was armed... the logs showed that every sensor in the whole house had "gone offline" for 4 1 second periods... about long enough for a ring. Call me paranoid... The USB stick idea is a good one though... anyone got any VC that Gunnar and I can borrow? ;-) Glenn Sullivan, MCSE+I MCDBA David Clark Company Inc. -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Posted At: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 9:23 AM Posted To: Windows 2000 Conversation: OT Door Lock Subject: [windows2000] Re: OT Door Lock Ummm... yeah... that's what I was thinking. It's just I was looking for something a little, less, shall we say, thought intensive. If I was a door lock manufacture, I would create a finger print reading device that has a small flash memory in it, this memory would be protable so you can program it at a computer and move the stick back into the door handle. Or maybe it would have wireless built into it, that would be sweet. Wire the scanner outside the door, with the PC inside the door. Attach the "switch" for the electronic strike to the parallel port, using one of the well known "parallel-port-switching" methods. Write an app to monitor the biometric API, query the AD, and key the door strike if they are allowed. Make sure there is another way in though... And I want this to cost less than $1000 because it is for one door only. Any ideas?
