Biometric Scanner (with an API) + Spare PC + Electronic Door Strike. Wire the scanner outside the door, with the PC inside the door. Attach the "switch" for the electronic strike to the parallel port, using one of the well known "parallel-port-switching" methods. Write an app to monitor the biometric API, query the AD, and key the door strike if they are allowed. Make sure there is another way in though... And I want this to cost less than $1000 because it is for one door only. Any ideas?
