My question would be, why not put the preference number in?

Joe

Do you know if you MUST have the "preference" number in an MX record, or
can it be omitted?

Is this OK:

company.com IN A 111.111.111.111
company.com IN MX company.com

or does it HAVE TO be like this:

company.com IN A 111.111.111.111
company.com IN MX 10 company.com
