Somehow, I seriously doubt that renaming in_mad.dll to in_mp3.dll would
restore winamp's ability to calculate ReplayGain for MP3 files. Just
because there's a file named in_mp3.dll in the plugins folder doesn't mean
that said file will be able to perform all of the same functions as the
actual in_mp3.dll file.

Hi:

Why not rename the Mad plugin to in_mp3.dll

Cheers.

Hi Christopher. I'm not at all surprised that you cannot calculate
Replaygain for MP3 files now. winamp is looking for in_mp3.dll to
calculate the Replaygain values for Mp3 files, but it can't find it anymore
since you had to rename or remove it to get the mad plugin to work..

I installed the Mad plugin and began playing around with it. One
thing I noticed right away is that I am now unable to calculate
replay gain for mp3 files, though it seems to still work for other
supported file types. This is true whether I use the library or the
work-around in the play list editor.

In a related question, is it useful to use 24-bit sound even if I
don't end up using the Mad plugin? I have a 24-bit-capable sound
card attached to my computer, but I don't know if the regular plugins
will take advantage of it or not?
