Hi,
What's the trick to getting the Winamp Library working with the keyboard? I
haven't caught on to it yet.

Thanks.

Jim

Thanks, Ron, for ferreting these addresses out of that labyrinth.

I have taken a look at the source file for some of the stations from the
stand-alone player, and I have no idea what to look for in terms of finding the
address to use as a Winamp bookmark. I suspect that they have tried to make it
difficult, if not impossible, to create bookmarks. This is a reasonable
hypothesis, since if you could bookmark the channels, then you could probably
listen without paying. But this is one of those matters in which I would love
to be proved wrong.

I really wouldn't mind paying what they're asking, if I could use Winamp to
play the streams instead of their player. It's much less convenient than
bookmarking.

I don't think the audio quality is as good as the AOL streams are, either.

  Evan

    Hi Evan and List,

If you bear the lion and make your way through the almost impossible to
navigate Winamp Library, you can find new links to the various XM/AOL Radio
Stations. I have been doing that for the last few hours and I have actually
reclaimed the following:

    1940's Big Band and classics
    1950's Rock and Roll
    1960's Rock And Roll
    1970's Rock And Roll
    British Invasion
    Elvis Tribute
    Doo Wop Paradise.

To find this information, you can go to the Winamp Library and highlight
the AOL Radio and then use your JAWS cursor or Window-Eyes Mouse Pointer to
grope around (quite literally) for the names of the various genres and then
double-left click on them. After a few minutes, the list of result sunder the
genre you have selected will appear--down near the bottom of the semi-virtual
window.

You must then grope around for the station name and then double-left click
on it. It will then launch and you can save it to bookmark.

Now I will attempt to copy and paste these items into this message--the
ones I have mentioned above. They are very long, so if you try copying them,
then be aware that they will wrap and you must avoid spaces. (note: the
address is above the name of the stream. I have changed the stream name from
the currently playing song at the time of bookmark to something more general.)

Just wanted to mention here that not all of the XM channels are gone from
AOL; so if you have bookmarks for them, you may not want to simply delete them
without checking first to see if they still work.

The channels I know of that are definitely gone that I did have bookmarks
for are Sixties on 6, Seventies on 7, Eighties on 8, Top Tracks and Deep Tracks.

However, the bookmarks I have for Seventies Black Music, Eighties
Alternative, Psychedelic and Progressive are still working. There may well be
other channels that are working that I don't know about.

I don't know whether these channels will keep on working, or whether they
will drop out at any time. But I thought that I would mention to people that
they should check their bookmarks before deleting them, and to not just assume
that all of their XM bookmarks will no longer work.

I have signed up for the free trial of XM, and I can tell you that Winamp
bookmarks are by far the most convenient method for playing stations, so if you
have any XM bookmarks that still work, you will certainly want to use the
Winamp bookmark method to play them for as long as you can.

      Evan
