Chris,

Wow. It is that easy? I was picturing laying out bucks for a server with high band width and whatever. I have DSL, the middle of the road level but I stream no problems incoming. I do have a router and firewall but I think that can still be done. This might well be much easier than I thought. Thanks and I'll get cracking onit. Here's another question quick. I use Winamp for my own media, I'm a songwriter so I'm always listening to other people's stuff, my own half written tunes, stuff my co-writers send and etc. If I'm streaming 24/7 on this project, can I have an earlier version of Winamp up at the same time so I can work and also stream using Winamp? Or does that create an issue.

Thanks this is very helpful. I wondered about the ACB Radio info, it seemed amiss even though I didn't know what I was doing with this venture.

Typically Brad, people stream directly from their computers, so it doesn't represent any kind of threat to you, it really is safe, and quite frankly less of a headache. This way you wouldn't have to spend time waiting for all your songs to upload and you can just broadcast them as they are, right there from the hard drive. The info on the ACB Radio Interactive page, in least in some areas is ridiculously out of date. Typically what people do nowadays is either install a Shoutcast server on their computer and then use the Shoutcast plugin to connect to that and stream the audio. It starts to get a lot more difficult if you're behind a router. So if you're on a machine that isn't behind any kind of router or firewall, it does make things a lot easier. So, here's how I would do it. Get yourself the latest version of Winamp and the Shoutcast plugin. Then, set up the Shoutcast server on your machine, if this is possible to do, remember as long as you keep most things to the defaults, you'll be ok. If you're not comfortable broadcasting from your own machine, there are plenty of places out there that'll let you buy a server for so much a month and then you can connect to it using the shoutcast plugin. You would still be using your own music, remember in this instance you're simply playing all your files right there in Winamp and if your shoutcast plugin is connected to the server, and if everything is right, you'll be able to send out audio and people will be able to listen.
Hope this helps get you going in the right direction.

Thanks I appreciate that. I know some of the past Winamp's and screen readers had issues so wasn't sure about upgrading to the latest version but I think I will do that. So how does this work. I upload MP3s to a server, input the info on the server to Shoutcast, set Winamp to use Shoutcast as output plugin, logs in and plays the tunes? I'm not looking for a "live radio show" at this point. I'm looking for more of a random play list of songs and disclaimer sound bits I'll record. I think there's a way to stream it off my hard drive but I don't want that vulnerability to my comp's IP address. I had figured to follow ACB Radio's set up guide as if to join them to get me at least connected and streaming, but not sure it is still accurate considering the buggered Shoutcast link/file? Do I need more than storage space, need something such as a server like Live 365?

hi. I think for simplicity's sake and people asking, can i have that, or, can you send that to me too? Just download the latest version, and the latest version of the Shoutcast plugin. Neither of them present any real big accessibility concerns.
The SHOUTcast plugin can be gotten from the download page of shoutcast.com
and the latest version of Winamp is available at http://winamp.com/player/

that should get you going!

Richard,

That version of Shoutcast will work with Winamp Version 5.1.1.143? No other installation needs be done other than the DLL files into the plugin area? If so you could send them on. I do have a few other questions regarding this web casting set up if you are willing to answer a couple off list? you can send the DLL's to esnud at sbcglobal.net I spelled out "at" for web crawler sake.

Thanks,

Brad

well, all one really needs are the dll files, and i'd be willing to give you them, and you could just slap them into your plugins folder.

I wil note that that version of the shoutcast plugin is the older one. I use the newer one because it works with the lame plugin, and is able to handle multiple streams.

Hello Brad,
I'm sorry I can't answer the other questions you have.
But however, there is another virgin of Winamp that is very Jaws user friendly.
It is virgin 5.35.
To the best of my understanding, the other virgins of Winamp after 5.35, are some what trouble some in this area.
If I'm wrong about this, please correct me.
 John.

Subject: Latest Winamp version

Hello Folks,

I didn't see an archive web addy on my sign up welcome which isn't a big deal but I do have a couple questions hopefully someone can help out with. My ultimate goal is to set up an internet radio stream per a project I am working on and will eventually be looking into the shoutcast plugin and etc. I was on ACB Interactive site looking at the info on setting up Winamp to use as a transmitter but the Shoutcast plugin they have downloadable from their site just errored out when trying to install it. That brings to mind that perhaps I do not have the latest speech friendly version of Winamp. I actually have two versions on two different comps which seem quite similar but the version I will use to transmit the station currently has Winamp Version 5.1.1.143 installed. Is there a later version of Winamp that is speech friendly with Jaws 8 and up or even back for that matter, and also if anyone is familiar and willing to help with questions regarding setting up a streaming radio station off list if not appropriate here, I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

Brad
