Mac, as no one has answered us yet, I am going to make what I think is a
logical guess in answering this question but I still hope that someone with
definitive information can confirm my suspicions.
I would think that when recording--burning or ripping a CD that some sort of
encoder software is used, whether it be the Lame mp3 or whatever. I also
believe that the equalizer would be only a playback function, i.e. part of the
playback software. So, my guess is, and I stress, only a guess, that equalizer
settings would be totally separate from recording settings. Further, if we
think about it, we usually set up the encoder for bit rates, sample rates, and
a host of other settings. So it would seem that burning and ripping settings
are totally separate from the equalizer otherwise, there would likely be at
least an equalizer toggle setting somewhere in the encoding software. The fact
that there is not makes me think that the equalizer is simply a playback
function.
So, any, one's comments on my ramblings would be appreciated please.

Robert,

Yes, that's it in a nutshell! Also, I would be interested in knowing if
anyone has a little experience with the settings; when I was sighted, I had
a Radio Shack 10 band"g.e." . I would set the sliders from "low to high",
in an "low, a little higher, a little higher still, down a bit, up a bit"
mode, if that makes any sense. I also saw people doing this with a curve,
low to high, then back down to low, I think. Make any sense, to you?

Thanks,

-Mac-

I am interested in this question also and I believe that what Mac wants to
know is are the equalizer settings active while making a recording or are
they flat or base line while recording and only active during playback mode.

Hi Chris,

I haven't played around with the equalizer much, but isn't there a way of
saving the presets from the equalizer to a file and then retrieving them for
individuals songs or albums?

hi Mac

It all depends really.
As far as Cd's go, if you're listening to the CD through Winamp, I believe
the equalizer probably takes the sound and changes it according to the
settings.
You really just have to listen to the songs you have and figure out a good
setting that works for all of them. It probably won't be perfect, but you
can find one that works most times.
