hi Mich,

if you just want to take the audio part from the .avi & .wmv file, i may 
suggest you to use Sony SoundForge 8.0. just open the .avi 
or .wmv file with SoundForge and resave it to .mp3, the audio will then save in 
to the .mp3 file. good luck

.AVI and .WMV files are both video formats.  I would not advise changing
the extension to .mp3 which is an audio file extension.  Keep in mind that
simply changing the extension to .mp3 doesn't change the file into an .mp3
file.
