We've noticed that in Vista the wave out device indices change when the preferred device changes (preferred device is always index 0). If a customer's app has a setup which relies on them remaining consistent is there a way to affect this (besides telling them not to modify the preferred device or to use the description strings rather than indices to save and restore their setup)? Is this feature affected by compatibility mode or some other system setting?
