Not sure what you mean by "adapater", but most sound cards,
many motherboard audio solutions and, increasingly, USB
audio devices expose DirectSound acceleration and allow
buffers to be created with DSBCAPS_LOCHARDWARE.  If you
are in any doubt before purchasing a sound card then look
to see who provides the driver/audio technology.  If it is
any one of the wide variety of devices that uses Sensaura
then you will be OK.  If it is a Creative Labs soundcard
or a Philips card using QSound technology then again you
will be OK (not sure about USB devices from Creative or Philips
