Sorry, I'm trying to gather your scenario. 1. You do want your application to only use your VAD device. 2. You do not want other Windows application to use theVAD device while your application is using it. 3. You do not want Windows system sound to use the VAD device while your application is using it. Is that correct? Cool, I've hit an undocumented Vista "feature". At least there is no trace of the "feature" in Sound Control Panel... Short story: In order to get as transparent a user experience as possible, my UM application on startup selects my VAD device as default device and on exit reverts to the previous device. Works fine. On Vista. Seriously ;) Well, semi-fine really since my switch implementation seems to only reroute sounds from applications (other than windows). The system sounds, f.i. the little "click" when you browse in explorer, are still routed to the old default device, whereas WMP f.i. is routed to my device (which incidentally _is_ shown as the default device in Sound Control Panel). If I choose the default device via Sound Control panel instead, all sounds go to the selected device, so obviously my implementation is incomplete (due to lacking information/documentation). Anyone care to share some insights here ?
