OK, so you have a user-mode interface feeding a circular buffer in your audio driver?  One of the most delicate operations in such a driver is tuning the depth of the circular buffer.  Too small, and you get dropouts when the system gets busy.  Too large, and your latency goes up.  It takes careful experimentation.
