OS X has shipped with a kernel extension for a while now for AVB audio,
much like USB audio. AVB endpoints are presented to applications just
like just like other hardware audio devices.
Macs with built-in wired Ethernet also have AVB-capable Ethernet
controllers.

How is it supported on the Mac? Isn't this almost exclusively an application-level protocol? How does the operating system get involved?
