Hello Vincent,
We also reported bugs here about devcon.exe (in September 2018) and we have
also suggested to Matthew and other Microsoft guys that there are problems
in WIN10 installation/update procedure.
I'm afraid MS has less and less qualified low-level audio developers
in the staff, because we see less and less continuity, but more and
more controversial and strange decisions.
We also suggested to Girish Pattabiraman (SYSVAD programmer) that the HLK
certification process does not produce the same number of errors on a driver
firstly installed and its further update
HLK certification process is definitely horrible. In my experience,
HLK audio tests often indicated errors if the driver worked as
described in MS docs. I saw no WHQL-certified audio driver that could
pass all HCK/HLK tests without errors.
And finally, there are different signs possibly unveiling a problem in
HARDWARE ID management in Win10 system or in its installation process (like
if they did not do a complete string comparison).
What Hardware ID management problems did you notice in Win10? How do they
manifest?
