Tim,

Your reasoning sounds good to me. I've acted on your suggestion, and all is
back to normal.
I'm back to defining actions again now.
I've been looking through the help file, and everything looks fine, but this
is one of the things on which I might do an audio tutorial at some point.

Best,

David.

Just to explain my reasoning behind making the error-checking so picky, I
remember using Sonar in its earlier incarnations and it didn't do this kind
of check. If you ran it and had forgotten to turn on one of your devices
that provided midi ports, all of your track device allocations went out of
whack and there was nothing you could do except reconfigure the lot - a real
hassle if you have a lot of gear. SurfaceReader's checking means that, if
you forget to turn your BCF on before loading the program, you'll get the
errors so you can back out, turn on and go in again.

Best wishes.

I get this same type of error in QWS when I have to shut down the sequencer
due to an error. I suspect what is causing this is that something has gone
hinkey (technical term, of course) with the virtual MIDI ports in whatever
application is being used.
Does a reboot solve the problem? It does on my end. If not a removal and
reinstall of the virtual port application might do the trick.

Tim,

I've uninstalled Surfacereader, primarily to clean out the registry, and
start again.

However, on launching SurfaceReader, I get an error.

BCF2000 Out: port 1 could not be opened. The not be opened bit repeats about
four times.

There appears to be no way to reset the device to factory setting.

Best,

David.
