As the Mafia say - it's not personal, it's just business (grin).. I've been
triggering updating of the status bar by trapping the change of selection in
the list box. Obviously, your use case doesn't trigger this update and it's
a simple and obvious fix - please excuse me whilst I take time out to kick
myself.

Thanks for implementing the status line, but I've found a problem with it.
My surface is in live mode, and I change it to be in Screen reader mode from
the mode submenu. The status line doesn't change.
While I'm writing, I will try it using the function keys.
No, it doesn't change the status line. However, if I quit the program, and
restart it, it correctly reports the mode.
