OK, I've checked the code and we do indeed try to detect NVDA before Jaws.
I'll do a shuffle for the next beta build you see.

Best wishes.

George,

This is an interesting one. It was something I identified at the start of
the test cycle as possibly causing a problem.

Best,

David.

I suspect a decent developer would like to wipe their feet properly, so hope
it can be fixed at their end regardless of any work arounds.

I suspect that this issue will relate to our order of detection and the fact
that NVDA doesn't seem to wipe its feet correctly when unloaded. If it's
leaving a residue behind and we test for NVDA before we test for Jaws (I
think this is the case, but would need to check the code) in our current
product detection routine, then I can see how the situation could arise.
The fix is simple enough - we put the NVDA detection last in the list.
Hopefully, no other screen readers leave their footprints behind and this
will deal with the issue completely. Obviously, we can't cope with having
multiple products active at once (even if you can cope with all of the
verbiage) and the active product will be the one that is detected first.

Best wishes.

David,

You might be able to go into msconfig (from the Run menu) and turn it off at
boot.

The NVDA service is loaded as part of the boot. Give me a while, and I'll
work out how to stop it running.

Best,

David.

Can you please reboot so that NVDA has never been run then test again and
report the result.

best wishes.

I was using jaws, but the NVDA service is active. Just give me a second.
I'll close down the NVDA service, and see what happens.

OK, sorry to report but it is still a problem.

1.Select BCF2000.

2.Go to file/new/application configuration.

3.Type Sonar as the name.

4.I then get a tree view, I open Mackie Control Protocol.

5.I then type V, and get taken to VPot1.

6.I open this node, and highlight jaws.

7.I open jaws, and select live mode(?)

8.I click the Add button.

This brings up the error message described in my last email.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Best,

David.

Hi,

Two points:

1 - Use a descriptive name for your configuration (for example, Sonar
instead of Sonarpdr) - we don't do anything like trying to match against
application .exe names or do foreground loading (mainly because we couldn't
find a method to make it work on the Mac - another future version feature,
maybe);

2 - We restrict you to only being able to create/edit actions for the screen
reader you're currently using. The reasoning behind this will become
apparent when you see what we're doing in Beta 5, but suffice to say that,
if you're running NVDA, you can't do anything in the Jaws branch, etc..
Please tell me that you weren't running Jaws when you get the error about
not being able to change Jaws actions. If you were, I'll need a keystroke
by keystroke method of reproducing the behaviour in order to fix it.

Best wishes.

Hi again,

I'm having a problem understanding what I need to do at this point.

I go for File/new/application configuration. I then type the name of the
app, i.e. sonarpdr.

I get a tree view. I found VPot1 in the tree, opened it, and found jaws. I
then clicked Add. I got an error saying it could only use the loaded screen
reader.

Any advice welcome,

David.

Hi Dave,

See my other post. The essential point here is that "Edit" means exactly
that - there's got to be something loaded before you can edit it.

I must admit that I couldn't quite decide how/where to put the application
configuration stuff, so it's split between the File and Edit menus. I
suppose I could create an AppConfig menu with Add. and Properties. entries
below it, though I could also argue that I should add App Config as an
option to the Surfaces menu, showing it as a sub-menu with Add. and
Properties. options below it.

Which makes most sense from a users perspective?

Best wishes.

Hello,

I decided to settle down and test the application configuration section, but
I can't get into it.

I select my control surface, and select edit/application configuration from
the menu. The program crashes on an unhandled exception. The exception is
caught however, so this may be some code that has been left in by accident.

Perhaps I have done something wrong,

Best,

David.
