Hi,
I would think the most efficient way is to visually search without the
magnifier. The individual should be able to identify different colors or dark
and light areas on the food container. Depending what the individual is looking
for, use some kind of landmark like the Nutrician Facts box, back of the
container, or part of the label with the picture, front of the container. These
reference points will help the individual know where to place the magnifier to
begin finding the specific information they want to read. If the vision is too
poor to visually scan the package, I would suggest moving to a bar code reader
like digit eyes or seeing ai apps. This is a non-visual way to access similar
information. Even if a person can visually read, it may be more time efficient
to use a non-visual method.
I hope this is helpful.

Subject: [visionrehabtherapist] What is the Best Pattern to Use the Magnifier
Hello everyone,
When teaching an individual to use the magnifier to read the information off of
the label, what is the best recommended pattern? For example, is it best to
recommend the X search pattern, Y search pattern, Z pattern, or the box search
pattern? Any help is appreciated.
