Actually, the floppy image is bootable (it uses freedos to avoid DOS copyright). So, just copy the image to a floppy (with 'dd' under linux, or rawwrite under DOS/windows), and boot from the floppy. Type 'lpt' and voila, you should see the parallel port pin values. It is not complex to scan the lpt with Linux (see for example the code at the end of the html page given in the previous post), BUT, with a stock linux kernel, you can miss fast transient states on the lpt (if they last , e.g., less than 10 msec)....
