Dear Paul,
I don't understand the error you were getting at all -- I'm glad you
fixed it. It looked like an ancient or broken version of Numeric or
numpy was being loaded somehow.
For what it's worth, I've just converted more of the Vision Egg to use
numpy (rather than the old Numeric). I think I'm going to switch the
Vision Egg source code repository to github, and I've pushed these
changes up, and you can see them at
http://github.com/visionegg/visionegg/commit/4040a059267da1939b0d11482318999de092388f
