Hey JPR,
On this subject, I'm setting up a large template and adding busses.
My workflow for a long time has been connecting a particular send to a
series of tracks and then connecting that send to a buss. To keep this
clear, Samplitude refers to a buss as submix. And I guess by default,
submix busses are connected to the master buss.
So my chain has always been
track to send to submix buss.
For example,
guitar track, to guitar send on that track, then connected to a
guitar submix buss
But, apparently Samplitude allows me to connect the track directly to
the submix buss without adding a send.
This kind a threw me at first.
Point being is that I can add compression and/or whatever effects
directly to the submix.
In this case, I don't need an aux send in my logic.
Then I discovered that apparently only one submix can be connected to
a particular track.
For example, if I assign the guitar track to the guitar submix buss,
then I cannot also add it to a reverb submix buss.
So then, to me the reason to add aux sends would be if I want
connections to more than one submix buss.
For example,
Let's say I want compression and reverb on that guitar track.
So I create 2 aux sends connected to the guitar track.
one send goes to the guitar submix buss which has a compression effect included.
the other send goes to the reverb submix buss.
Obviously, if I added compression to one aux send and reverb to the
other, I would only need one submix buss connected to both those
sends.
Or, I guess if those sends can be connected directly to the master
buss, I don't even need a submix buss.
Wow, this got alot longer than I intended.
Anyway, I just wanted to be sure my thinking is clear about the way
Samplitude handles aux sends and bussess?
Please tell me if I'm in left field.

mixing, and even though I'm not at all nostalgic about these noisy and
distorting pieces of equipment, it has helped me a lot to have
experimented this workflow where everything was physically connected.
That helps you understand a lot of things as digital recording and DAWs
Virtually reproduce the same workflow.

This is very nice when using reverb, while you can put reverb as a
plug-in on any channel, if you use one reverb on the Auxiliary bus and
then send your signals to that it provides a more cohesive and natural
reverb sound where all the instruments are in the same space.
Using reverb on an auxiliary bus allows one to EQ the reverb return. I
found that using a hard pass and rolling off the low rumbly
frequencies out of the reverb can reduce the muddiness in a track.
In fact, you could use any plug-in you would like on the auxiliary
bus, compressing reverb can help smooth out a rough performance.

so what you do is insert an effect of your choice in your aax buses,

which level. But this doesn't change the routing at all, it kind of
creates a second, third, Fourth and so on routing, which are
independent from one another, and how many of which depend on the
number of aax buses you created in your project.

Yes that is exactly what I was trying to do.
Now Steve has done a video demonstration on routing tracks to
sub-mix buses, How about doing 1 to route tracks to AAX sends? Just
a little suggestion.

Hi Nick
What is it you’re trying to do? For example, I generally insert an
Aux send and say put a reverb in it then send the signal from the
track I want reverb to the aux send. Is this the sort of thing you
mean?
If so, then to access the aux send from the track you want to send a
signal from use the keystroke Ctrl plus Alt plus E. This opens up
the aux send dialogue. I can’t remember the keystrokes to access
the controls of the top of my head, but they should be in the
keystrokes doc.

to sub mix buses, But the instructions on how to work with AAX
sends, seems to be none existant in the read me. Can anyone help?
