Pete:
I want to Echo what Kevin has said. The best way to learn this program – and
the quickest way, is to forget about Sonar and how things were done in Sonar.
Otherwise you will get frustrated very easily when things don’t work the way
you expected. I have used Reaper so my mind already thinks in the way
Samplitude operates, but I know this is not the case for sonar users.

Pete,
As ever, forget SONAR ever existed.
1. Don’t bother routing your tracks to different MIDi channels. That’s
irrelevant and will cause you more headache in the end. Instead, having set up
two separate instances of Independence, each with its own track, leave the MIDi
IN and OUT set to All, which is the default.
To make sure that you only hear one instrument per track, the recipe is to go
to the Transport Control Window with CTRL Shift T. Then, press CTRL Alt Shift
F twice quickly to go to the Input Monitoring Menu. From there, arrow down
three times and you should hear, “Auto MIDi Record Switch on current track.”
Press ENTER to check this option and exit the Transport Window by pressing CTRL
Shift T once more. You should return to the VIP window and the desired
condition will prevail until you change it by repeating the procedure above.
HTH,
Kevin

I set track 1 to a bass and track 2 to a piano.
I also set the midi channel out to 1 on track 1 and channel 2 on track 2
(using the midi routing dialog control+WindowsKey+D).
I realize this may not work like Sonar (which I’m used to), but in sonar if I
set up things as above, if I arrowed to track 1 and played my midi keyboard I
would only hear the bass. Similarly, if I arrowed to track 2 and played my
keyboard I would only hear the piano. Is there some way of doing this in
Samplitude so I can play and only hear one instruement at a time? Is there
some way of setting the output of each instance of Independence to a separate
midi channel so that I don’t get my midi data confused on separate tracks?
Thanks.

Now in Samplitude no matter which track I am on I hear both instruments
(unless I solo one of the tracks).
