JPR,
Yes, the basic bat files are easy to create. Here is what I have set up.
After the description I’ll copy the text in one of my bat files:
1. In the Program Data / Magic / Samplitude 4 folder I added a new folder
called “My ini backups”.
2. I started by copying all of my ini files into that folder. This only
has to be done once.
3. In that folder I created a bat file called “”pt restore.bat”. The “pt”
is so that I can find this file easily.
Here is the contents of that bat file. Basically it simply copies all of the
ini files in this special folder up one folder to where the working ini files
are stored that Samplitude uses.
--- contents of bat file:
@echo restoring backup copy of ini files
copy Sam.ini ..\Sam.ini
copy Sam.TBX2 ..\Sam.TBX2
copy Sam_vis.ini ..\Sam_vis.ini
copy Sam_x64_audio.ini ..\Sam_x64_audio.ini
copy Sam_x64.ini ..\Sam_x64.ini
copy Sam_x64.TBX2 ..\Sam_x64.TBX2
copy Sam_x64_vis.ini ..\Sam_x64_vis.ini
@echo done restoring ini files
Pause
* End of bat file
Then in the folder where Samplitude has its ini files I have another bat file
called something like “pt save ini files” that copies Samplitudes working ini
files to the “My backup ini files” folder.
Using the bat files I don’t have to keep finding the appropriate ini files each
time and highlighting the appropriate files to copy them back and forth. The
automated process makes this not only easier but less error prone.
Now that I have this working, I really should put these bat files (or a
shortcut to them) on my Desktop so that I don’t have to open up Windows
Explorer and rill down into the Program Data folder every time I want to save
or restore the ini files. Maybe that will be tomorrow’s job!
Anyway, if you need more help on this let me know.

yes Pete,
I've always wonder which of these INI files contain the list of last open
Projects, and if this particular file could be skipped. Tell me about BAT
files, I'm not that good in computer science, are they easy enough to create
and handle?
Thanks,

Yes, I think I’ll just set up some more bat files for doing the swap back and
forth automatically. The only thing I seem to lose that way is the list of
last opened projects under the File pull-down menu, which is nice to have, but
not necessary.
I never knew that the scripts were designed to only show one track at a time.
I thought there was a way to show more, but maybe that is only in the Track
manager and Object manager where control+T shows how many tracks are visible.
I don’t even know what my wife did to show multiple tracks on the screen at
once.
Thanks everyone.

hi Pete,
I don't see why it shouldn't work. I already have my own INI files in a folder
so that if Samplitude changes anything, I can reload mine instantly. So if you
have two sets of files, one with your name, and one with your wife's name, all
you need to do is paste The ones you need in Samplitude's folder.

I think all instances of Samplitude share the same ini files in the Program
Data directory.
The reason I let my wife run Samplitude during interviews and the reason she
likes to have all tracks visible at once is so that she can monitor the
waveforms to make sure we are recording. We’ve caught issues this way before.
I guess if we have to keep swapping around ini files I will. I actually
created some bat files to do that automatically, but I would like to have this
just work.

Hi
Here’s a further idea, why not load up a second instance of Samplitude, if
possible, which can be configured for sighted use. This would negate the need
to keep loading up ini files.

Hi
Here’s a radical idea, may be our sighted friends and partners need to adjust
to how we work, and not the other way round. Steve has developed the scripts
in a way which means Samplitude has to be set in a particular way. This is a
limitation set down by how the scripts work. Trying to work outside of these
parameters will cause the scripts to stop working at their optimum.

Hi Pete,
I am not a scripter, but I suppose your situation is not compatible with the
way Samplitude script work.
I would suggest the following.
1. Locate the folder where your Samplitude INI files are, create a
shortcut for this folder, and place it on your desktop so you can access it
quickly.
2. Copy the seven INI files this folder contains for each workflow, you
using the scripts as normal, and you doing an interview with your wife having
to see the four tracks. In each case, paste them in a conveniently placed and
named folder.
3. Each time you will need one of these workflows, open One of these, copy
its contents to your clipboard, and paste it to your Samplitude INI files
folder, the one you created a shortcut for.
I tell you, it Will take you 30 seconds to change your workflow in Samplitude,
and I don't
see anything quicker.

I occasionally have my sighted wife run Samplitude when we are recording an
interview for eyes On success.
We record interviews with three tracks: one microphone for each of us and one
track for the Zoom connection. So I would like to have 4 tracks visible on the
screen at once.
The problem is that she can only see and monitor one track on the screen at a
time the way I have Samplitude configured to use the scripts. For a blind user
this is no problem since we can only “see” one track at a time and just arrow
down to see more. Anyway, somehow she then manages to modify the screen so
that all tracks are visible to her plus the Master track. Then when I go back
and try to use the scripts to edit the interview, the scripts don’t seem to
work.
Question #1: What is the best solution for this? I’ve been copying back my ini
files after each time she uses Samplitude but it seems there ought to be a
better way.
Question #2: I’ve been trying to create a template that shows all tracks on the
screen. I couldn’t find any keystrokes in the keystrokes documentation that
seemed to be able to help me here. What I was looking for is:
* A way to show more tracks. And/or control which tracks are visible at
the same time in the VIP
* A way for the scripts to tell me which tracks are visible. The
Control+T keystroke only seems to work in the track manager but not the VIP, so
I can’t tell what is showing in the VIP.
Thanks for any advice.
