Eleanor,

You are implying, then, that the folk who experience problems between their phones and Talks would still experience them if they got Talks Premium instead? (I'm personally out of the loop there. I did come across someone's being recommended to upgrade their Talks to the premium version to obviate the problems such as phone freezing that they were having.)

Absolutely not Flor, the basic Talks you get with Vodafone is a cut down version. It does not have problems but does not allow labelling of icons that are not already labelled. It also will not work with a braille display and the User dictionary cannot be used for correcting of word prounciation.

And there are two talks packages: Talks basic and Talks Premium. the basic Talks (with its problems) is what you get with Vodafone, right?

Pauline I read with interest. A friend has purchased an e52 and she keeps telling me that it is freezing. I wonder what the matter is. She returned it to the shop twice and had it replaced and the firmware updated. I wonder do you have the latest firmware on yours. If not, it might be worth putting it on. This can be done via PC Suite. As to Talks rumour about it being on a SIM. It is no longer a rumour but a reality and yes it can be purchased for SIM at a high price!

I bought my first Talks with Vodafone three years ago and then turned to talks provided for newer phones. I am not happy with only phone vodafone on offer E52 which freezes on a regular basis even with Talks 5.

That is my gripe out of the way. Romour has it that Talks will be put onto Sym card and then I suppose life will bbe a little easier.

I for one do not relish idea of having to put talks onto phone. Phones dear enough. Having said all this I for one would not be with mobile phone.

Sorry Paul, will now put soap box away[smile]

Tony if I may correct you a little, this has nothing to do with Vodafone only offering a few phones with Talks. Talks works on a certain cymbian platform and works best wish phones with tactile keyboards. However, the Talks developers are doing their best to keep up with Nokia and other phone manufacturers to provide Talks on touch screen phones. I think Vodafone are to be commended for providing Talks free of charge rather than critising them for not providing sufficient types of phones.

 Hi Jackie,

As I understand it, Vodafone provide Talks free of charge so consequently they pay!

Now they are only prepared to offer this on a couple of older phones.

I know it's a bit of a pain as you can't have it free from them on say newer phones but that's how it is I'm afraid.

   Dear Eleanor,

The one thing stopping Jackie from buying her own phone would be the price. If you want to purchase a handset without an airtime contract, the cost can be prohibitively expensive. And then she'd have to buy and install the TALKS software herself. A daunting prospect for many
   non-techies,

   John
