One place Susan where I have purchased tape recorders is from Curry's. Have
you tried them?

Susan I thought the RNIB sold tape recorders. Wonder if they sell that
one. Have you asked?

      hi tony,

that's true, that's why I'm thinking of getting another one. hopefully
this soni one does as long as my last one did, I had it for 11 years and the
chap who gave it to me had it for several years before that again. maybe I
should keep it and take it to a museum or hang on to it for 11 more years and
take it to the Antiques road show.

      many thanks

      Susan

        Hi Susan,

You are very fortunate to have been able to purchase a cassette
recorder at all these days.

I understand that a number of lines have been now discontinued!

It will only be a matter of time (and not too long I reckon) that
tape-recorders will be definitely a thing of the past; unless The Antiques
Roadshow possibly! (smile)!

I suggest that folk like myself who have important and much-loved
cassettes should check out their recorders and replace them to play the
cassettes if necessary.

There are ways to transfer cassette content to digital but I haven't
gone down that road as yet anyway; Audacity I think is the name of the
programme.

I have a Merantz which I have been made offers for but no thanks I will
hang on to it; served/serves me well!

Don't know The Shoebox at all but it sounds quite handy to use.

I know that there is a Sony store too here in Dublin's O'connell Street
close to Eden Quay.

        Best,

        Tony

            Hello Susan,
I think I know the recorder you are writing about.

it is a Philip's recorder, and it indeed has piano keys, and a
volume control on the right hand side of it.
I still have such a recorder to play the odd tapes.
            the model number is:
            type d 6280-00

            Bert

              hi Joe,

no this takes ordinary cassettes, it is like the shoe box, lies
on it's back and has a piano keybord like controls, ie from left to right,
record, play, fast rewind, fast forward, stop and pause.

hope this makes sense, it is about 12 years old.

              many thanks

hello susan, can you explain a little more what you mean by
shoe box tape recorder, most recorders today are digital recorders with SD
cards, although some people still use minidisk recorders, most audio
journalists today are as i say using the digital recorders, some of them are
not very blind friendly, i'm currently using the plextor recorder, it is
excellent for people with sight loss, and the quality is brilliant, don't know
if this helps, take care, travel safely, joe.
