it is explained quite well on the site what it does. It appears safe to me. I tried it with a pdf that I know causes problems for conversion software, and, towards the end of the conversion process, it gave an error. You just need the software to do it. Download a demo of abbeyy Fine Reader and if it is a small enough document you may be able to do it with the demo. It depends on how much accuracy you want.
