I have the same phone. Susan is possibly pressing the number 1 key which gives
Her the punctuation options in a drop down menu when in predictive text,

Susan,

It may be possible for you to go beyond the number keys, e.g., pressing
a key five, six, or even seven times, may produce a symbol (such as the
apostrophe) not available on the ordinary keypad. there's also
predictive text, but that may not always work correctly!
