Susan, to my knowledge although I don't use one they do have a thing you can put over the screne that has raised up bumps or something to denote where you are on the phone. I am not sure if Apple have brought this out or a company dealing with specialised products for Visually Impaired people have done it. Although I am slow with texting on my iPhone it is completely accessible apart from that. I think that what you are trying to describe is making it more user friendly. There is a difference here and Voiceover, the screne-reader that Apple provides is excellent and much more human sounding than you will get with Talks. Now, I am not discrediting Talks either as it certainly served a purpose for me in the past but, and you are hearing this from a person that in the beginning totally ditched the idea of using an iPhone, I would not now make such a statement and I love my phone.

Cheers, Nicky.

hi Eleanor,

I was in a apple shop looking at I phones and one of the members of staff told me that they where trying to bring out some sort of grid that would make the phone more accessible to a blind person, have you heard of this?

Not Flor, but the Apple iPhone is a different platform from the Symbian s60 phones Susan. the voice-over is out of the box so to speak and is on the phones of sighted people with iPhones too only most of the sighted people are probably not even aware of it. The voice-over has been designed to meet the needs of visually impaired users Susan. These are touch screen phones and do not have tactile keyjpads. Some visually impaired and blind people love these phones and there are members on the list, Paul T included who use these phones.

You won't need to be too technical regarding Voiceover as used on the iPhone touch-screen.

Joe,

Just to add, came across this post below from a UK list.

That book reference sounds about right but I was looking for another!

The one I'm thinking is in different formats.

I go back to The Late show now.
Best.

Hi there
There are a lot of podcasts about voiceover on www.blindcooltech.com
especially those by Mike arrigo.
You could also try www.icanworkthisthing.com and www.maccessibility.net
for further resources.
Greetings, Anouk,

Subject: [access-uk] Apple Voice Over Tutorials

Hi All,

Does anyone know of any good tutorials to enable me to quickly get to
grips with using Apples voice over screen reader.

I am used to using JAWS and have all the shortcuts to applications and

files set up on my PC desktop.

However, on the Mac, things seem a little different. The speed at
which it responds to key commands is very impressive. I just need to
master the key commands.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Regards

hello friends, it's friday evening, so i don't know if anyone will be on this list until monday, but here goes anyway, i have now made the decision to purchase an i phone, but i'm going to hasten slowly, i have purchased a book from the national braille press in boston dealing with the i phone for people with sight loss, it recommends you purchase the book before you buy your phone, so step one i have made correctly, i have been warned that there is a lot of learning to do, so bring it on, i will more than likely finish up using four letter words such as damn and drat, etc. my first question [of many rest assured] is, what phone should i buy?? i don't want to use my phone as an mp3 player, i have enough of them, but anyway, i'm going for it, i'm due a silver upgrade from O2 so that will be something towards the cost, any help will really be appreciated, god bless, take care, travel safely, joe.
