No Tony, If you read my instructions you will see that I mention running the avast update from within your current avast software. Hi Paul, Do we need to uninstall our present Avast before installing the upgrade or no? Thanks Tony----- Original Message ----- From: "NCBI Technical Support" <paul.traynor@xxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 8:27 AM Subject: [vip_students] Updating Avast program software revised!Hi Everyone, I noted after sending the Avast update program software instructions yesterday I made a mistake in one of the instructions and wanted to send in a revised set of instructions for you to read. 1. Start up your PC and wait for it to land on the desktop. 2. Press keys, winkey + letter M to make sure that you are indeed on the desktop. 3. Press letter A for Avast and then hit the enter key or left double click with the mouse. 4. When Avast opens up it will be informing you that it is doing a memoryscan, you can choose to stop this scan by tabbing over to the "stop memoryscan" and pressing spacebar or left clicking on it with your mouse. 5. In most cases the next screen will say something like "Avast simple user interface, dummy checkbox checked". At this point, press the application key on your keyboard. Note:For those using an ordinary avast screen where you tab through the different boxes, just press alt + T to go into the tools menu and arrow down to "updating". 6. Press the letter U to jump to the updating sub menu. 7. Arrow down once to "program update" and hit enter key.At this point your Avast software should go off onto the internet and lookfor a program update if there is any available. 8. Wait a few moments and if there is a program update available then Avast will take it down, install it and then prompt you with a "close button".Note: A program update is not the same as a normal daily update. A programupdate is a full installation of a newer version of the current avast software you have installed and is important. This action will ensure that you are properly protected on the net and make sure that you are receiving the latest updates. For anyone using other anti virus software, you will have to look up how to update your program on the venders web site etc. Good luck, Paul. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
