Good instructions Nioall; but let me refine them and make it a little easier (I
hope).
When you get to the JAWS shortcut on the desktop, press alt+enter. You should
now be in the correct (properties) tab control of the dialogue. Tab about two
or 3 times to shortcut – or shortcut key – edit. Here, ctrl+alt is the default
value. So, if you did want ctrl+alt+j to be the shortcut keystroke, you just
need to press j.
(However, If you already have that keystroke assigned, as say, to another
version of JAWS or some other program, or if your system dings at you then, in
any case, you may instead use any one of: ctrl+shift; alt+shift;
ctrl+alt+shift. (You could use any alphanumeric character instead of j, e.g.,
for JAWS 12 you could use alt+ctrl+2 or any of the other ‘modifiers’ I have
given.)
Now after you have press the active keystroke tab on to the OK button, and
activate it. (Caution, do not at any stage in this process press shift+tab; as
it negates any value you set.) If an administrative warning or ‘permission
denied’ message comes up after you press enter once on the OK button, press
ENTER again.

The following is from memory, so I might miss a step here or there.
Press Windows D to go to the desktop.
Arrow around until you get to the JAWS icon.
Press the applications key or bring up the context mini with Shift and F10.
Arrow down to properties, the last thing in the menu, and press enter.
Tab around until you hear something like shortcut or shortcut key.
Press Control + Alt + J to set the shortcut combo.
Tab until you get to Apply and press enter.
If an administrator dialogue pops up, just press enter on continue with
administrator privileges or something like that.

I wanted to play an extra from the Late Late Show accessing the Standard
