Hi Joan Ann,
I use Audacity to edit my ringtones and then I use another programme
that my friend made called Ringtone-Maker to convert the song to M4R
and add it to Itunes. It is a very easy programme to use and it
allows you to have a ringtone up to 40 seconds in length.
Once you have your Mp3 file edited in Audacity go to the file menu and
export it as a Wav file. Make sure to keep the file name that it has
and save it in to the same directory you have Ringtone-Maker saved in
to, otherwise the programme won't work.
Now open up the ringtone-maker folder and you should have 12 items in it.
Locate the Wav file and cut or copy it in to the Ringtone-Maker folder
with all the other files in it.
Arrow up and down until you find the file that has exe at the end of
it and enter.
Now the song will start being converted to M4R. Jaws will keep
reading how much progress is done and if the ringtone was no longer
than 40 seconds you will get a success message, if its over the 40
seconds you will get an error message.
Now open up Itunes.
Alt and tab back in to the ringtone-Maker folder, locate your M4R file
and press enter on it.
Now it will start to play your ringtone and add to Itunes.
Navigate to the ringtone section of your Itunes Library and your new
ringtone should be there.
Sink your phone, go in to settings, sounds, ringtones and your new one
should be on the phone, you will just need to double tap on it to make
it the default one.

Here is a link the programme can be downloaded from

Hope this helps

Regards
Mairead
