Hi Sean,
I have done this using windows moviemaker which comes with your windos xp
and later. You will need a video capture card. I bought mine in aldi some
years ago. You could try sound store.
You link the scart-out socket on video recorder to the video-in socket on
the card.
This program makes an mpg file which you can then use windows media player
to convert to dvd and burn it on.

A few weeks ago someone asked if there was a system of converting cassette
tapes to C D's but I have not yet seen any suggestions. I also would be
very interested in this as I have a good few talking books on Cassette tapes
that I would love to either place on my computer or on a a Cd in order to
preserve them.
Come on I know there is a recording genius out there somewhere
