Public Hearings for the 814 Area Code Plan:  All residents and businesses are reminded that the Pa Public Utility Commission (PUC) will be holding public hearings to gather input on the effects of both a geographic split and overlay options designed to ensure adequate numbering resources in the 814 Area Code.  Do you feel your business will suffer from changing your area code?  Will there be a financial impact for your business?  Does it sound like the change would work for you?  Whatever the case, this is your opportunity to express your opinion and hear what others think.  If you wish to speak at the hearing, you are asked to bring a written statement with copies for the hearing board.  The decision for changing the 814 Area Code has been suspended to allow for these he arings-so SPEAK NOW – OR DON’T!  Two local dates:  Wednesday, August 17^th at 6:00 pm at the DuBois Area High School Auditorium; or Thursday, August 18^th at 6:00 pm at the Punxsutawney Community Center Auditorium in Punxsy.

Another Afternoon Delight MIXER is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21^st at the new multi-tenant building of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation in Clearfield.  Watch for further details as we have an opportunity to view this new location built especially for the gas and oil industry.

After-Hours MIXER at the Winery at Wilcox in the DuBois Mall – scheduled for Wednesday, October 5^th from 5-7pm.  Keep watching for details…

 First Step: Starting a Small Business – Workshop each month July through December 2011 designed to give you a head-start with your business.  Topics that will be covered during each session:  What to consider before starting a business; License and tax information; Regulations governing a business; Guidelines on how to finance your business; How and why to prepare a business plan; Other resources you can use to help you plan and succeed.  Sessions will be held Saturdays at DuBois Best Western from 8:30–noon.  The date of the workshop is August 20.  The cost is $20 per person.  To register online www.web.clarion.edu/sbdc/training or call toll free at 877-292-1843.

The DuBois Ar ea Council on the Arts (DACOTA) will present the fourteenth season of its summer poetry series, Poetry in the Park, at the DuBois City Park in the large pavilion near the YMCA.  Each session will be on a Friday and will last from noon-1 p.m.  The date for the readings - August 12.  This event features readings by area poets of all ages, some of whom have published their poetry.  The public is invited to read poetry or just bring lunch and enjoy the readings.  There is no charge and the event which will be held rain or shine.
