Excellent. That was exactly what I hoped for!
I won't be there, but wish you all well.

Great ideas, and thank you Sarah and others for all the

Dear Deniz
Although I'm largely a sleeping partner in VIHAR, I'd like to
add my thanks to Richard's for your explanation, and for
joining VIHAR too. Perhaps a good solution to avoiding further
confusion, is to invite one or more of VIHAR's members who
could contribute to the issues your grants address (if that's
possible within the bounds of your grants) and/or to provide a
web link to VIHAR and its activities, with an explanation of
the existence of the two groups. These are just ideas that
might help move the field of enquiry forward faster.
all the very best for your workshop!

Dear Deniz et al.
Thanks for joining the group and welcome. I must confess I
was also surprised by the workshop, but I think it is really
great to see more events related to the topic and the growth
of this community will help us all in making these events a
success.
Looking forward to meeting you in any of these upcoming
workshops.
Best regards,

Dear all,
Thanks Sarah, I also would like to believe there is
room for all of us.
I am one of the organizers, and felt the need to say
"please do not get bad feelings." I hope I can help
here. To start with, as Sarah correctly guessed, this
was really planned to be a one-time event, and indeed
we are a human communication/speech group (with
normal or impaired hearing) more than a voice group.
But now we have a number of human voice
communication-related projects, hence this is the
source of our interest in this field. But further, I
had contacted Roger a year ago about this, also to
ask if we could perhaps combine the two events, but
at the time there were no concrete plans. As a
result, we had to go ahead with our workshop
planning, as this was promised to the funding
organizations. So there has never been an intention
of hijacking your wonderful workshop which is much
more broader than ours and seems better organized anyway.
So, can we work together?
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Deniz

Hello again
Although I share Roger's surprise, the
contributors' interests suggest that the focus
will be rather more strongly on human
communication (and specifically speech and
hearing) than VIHAR's, possibly with more
short-term goals. So there's probably room for both.
all best

Dear All,
I did indeed receive this announcement, and I
contacted the organisers to alert them to the
similarity between their event and ours.
Apparently they were vaguely aware of
VIHAR-2017, but they didn't explain how their
description - "vocal communication
in-and-between humans, animals, and robots" -
came to be only one word different from VIHAR.
They have expressed interest in VIHAR-2019, so
we can see how that might develop.
All the best
Roger
