Because Internet Explorer is involved, the problem is a bit more complicated –
but not insoluble.

- where there is an ‘ultimate’ fix that isn’t too difficult to implement. There
will be consequences, but you will be able to resume downloading again.

The ultimate solution is there (and don’t do this unless you have to. You would
then lose all personal settings, inclding passwords if you saved them in
Internet Explorer.)
I went through a similar situation in Windows Xp or Millennium in about 2005
when my Internet Explorer stopped downloading anything worthwhile. My fix then
was a ‘homegrown’ one of a mass deletion of temporary files in Internet
Explorer, in fact the whole IE5 Content folder in the Windows Temp folder. I
resumed normal downloading etc, again; but you could argue that my PC was
‘never the same afterwards’.

hi flor im sorry that original message should have said downloaded.
something else i have just tried is to download firefox and use this to try
open it. but when i try to download firefox from internet explorer im now
getting the same message as the pdf documents.
your current security setting do not allow this document to be downloaded
is internet explorer the problem now?
and yes my laptop is regularly updated and this might have change something
that's now not allowing me to open old pdf’s that originally opened before.

In another message, you said, “... do not allow this document to be opened.” In
the message below, you say, “... do not allow this document to be
*downloaded*”. Which is it, opened, or downloaded? In other words, it could be
your Adobe Reader, or your Web browser, that’s causing the issue.
Assuming from what you have said that it’s more likely an Adobe Reader issue:
Please verify that you have unchecked Protect documents at Startup, in the
Security Enhanced settings in Preferences. (Is your screenreader reporting the
status of checkboxes correctly? If JAWS, press NumPad INSERT + UPARROW on a
checkbox to verify its state.)

i did all what you said on your message and still nothing.
when i try open a pdf document from my documents it still gives me the same
message.
your current security setting do not allow this document to be downloaded.
now if i have adobe dc opened and go to file menu and down to the recently
opened documents it
shows the documents that i was trying to open when i try open the document
from here it opens and tells me that its a blank document which i know its not.
i had this happen with other documents before and opened them in some way that
allowed me to read the text. but for the life of me i cant remember how i did
it.
any other suggestions more than welcome and many thanks.

Hi Vincent,
If you’re talking about opening PDF’s on a computer using acrobat Reader DC,
here’s a somewhat comprehensive set of instructions some of which may bear
directly on your problem. It’s been a good while since I have had to make any
of the changes treated with.
Try the following cchanges below to see if
they help with performance.
Note that there are links with the Security Enhanced section to explain the
consequences of
unchecking items there, and you may want to find out what they have to say.
1. Open Adobe Reader DC from your desktop or start menu icons, go into
preferences with control-k. JAWS lands on an item in a tree view.
If you have been here before, it will be the item you last opened. Arrow
down to Security Enhanced. Note that this is the item below "Security."
Then uncheck these 2 options, the 2nd option is not necessary to uncheck
but, optional:
Enable Protected Mode at startup, needs to be unchecked.
Enable Enhanced Security, does not need to be unchecked.
Note. When making changes in the Security Enhanced section, you will be told
that Adobe needs to be restarted, but you can wait to finish the other
changes first.
2. Launch the Edit menu, Alt + E, scroll down to the Accessibility submenu
and open
it. Scroll down to the Set-up Assistant and press enter. The Set-Up
Assistant has five screens, but the only change you have to make is on the
last, screen 5 of 5. Go through all the screens, pressing spacebar on "Next"
in each instance, until you reach the fifth and final screen. Here, tab to
the check box labeled "Display PDF documents in the web browser" and make
sure it
is unchecked. It may be checked by default. Then tab to the Okay button, &
press enter. You can now close the program & give it a try on a PDF file.

before how do i fix this issue.
