As an alternative, you could uninstall RealPlayer and install Real Alternative, or the classic media Player, mentioned in the article I referenced earlier. Winamp also has some limited conversion abilities with .RAM files (although RealPlayer seems to have disabled Winamp from doing it in more recent iterations.) Trial and error.

Eamonn,

WMP doesn't treat with .RAM. did you mean RealPlayer? With the Free
RealPlayer, you can't exactly play the files one after the other with no
gaps. However, i would 'line them up' by starting them and then, when
one file had opened, opening the next file, and so on. After that, you
could press alt-f, followed by the number in reverse order down from the
last file of the first of those (most recent) files. Then if you were
recording four files, the first one would be: alt-f, 4. you could use
goldWave to tidy up the blank bits between the files. A lot of work, or
a labour of love!

Hi Flor,

Thanks for both emails.

The clarification is appreciated, as I thought that may be the case.

I didn’t see .ram in the conversion options in total Recorder nor nor
Goldwave.

I probably wouldn’t pay for a program, as I don’t think I’d use it very
much

I’ll connect my Book Port to the computer, and do a real time recording.

Can you configure WMP to start another recording when the previous one
finishes?

If I can I’d select all recordings. And just work away.

Thanks,

Eamonn

In the meantime, try Google

.ram to .mp3

- and, among the results, visit:

http://swen.antville.org/stories/735413/

- which tells of free (or almost free) conversion methods from .ram
files to .mp3. there is also another program, paid, called Switch, which
may be good for this.

Eamonn,

Looks as if these files cannot be converted into other media file types,
as the option is unavailable in RealPlayer when you play one. Are you
prepared to [pay, either for one of the paid-for RealPlayer Plus
products or for something like SoundTaxi. they do mention copyright on
the page, too.

Hi folks,

Just wondering if files with a .ram extension can be converted to .wav
or .mp3, and if so, which programs will do this?

If World War II news bulletins are your thing, you may like to check
out:
http://www.royalsignals.org.uk/

There are some news bulletins up there in RealPlayer streaming audio
format, which I assume is .ram.

There are also recordings of William Joyce, Lord Haw Haw!

They play fine on my pc, but I’d like to transfer them to the Book
Port.
I transferred them directly, but got an unsupported file format
message.

Regards with thanks,

Eamonn
