Hi all,
As you will be aware, this years VICS AGM takes place this coming
Saturday May 24th at 2:00pm in the NCBI Training Centre, Whitworth Road,
Dublin 9. You will shortly receive an email with details of the agenda.
In an exciting development for the society, we are proud to announce
that this years meeting will be available online, allowing you to
participate from the comfort of your armchair.
The event will be broadcast as a conference call through Skype, a free
telephony application available at http://www.skype.com. You will be
able to listen to the event in realtime, and interact with those present
in the venue, providing of course you have the necessary equipment. For
more please check out Brian Daltons excellent piece on the software in
the latest edition of Info VICS.
In short, what you will need is:
1) A pc connected to the Internet (dial-up may work, however we would
strongly recommend broadband)
2) The latest version of the Skype software installed (version 3.8)
3) A skype username
4) A set of speakers
5) A microphone
(please note a mic / headset combo will also suffice for 4 and 5 above).
Due to technical limitations, a maximum of 12 people will be able to
participate online, and it has been decided to broadcast audio only.
So, if you would like to join us, please send your name, email address,
and your Skype username to accounts@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx as soon as possible.
Once all 12 places have been filled, I'll send a mail to this list to
inform you all that no further requests for participation will be
accepted. In the event of us not reaching the 12, the deadline is 1:00pm
on Friday.
A set of instructions will be sent to the lucky 12 detailing the steps
necessary to get involved on the day.
As you can appreciate, the committee are quite busy at this time of year
making sure everything is in place for the AGM, and therefore will
regrettably be unable to guarantee technical support. If you are new to
Skype, and require assistance, we would strongly encourage you to make
use of this list. It is a great resource, and I'm sure your fellow
listees would be only too happy to help. Naturally the committee will
endeavour to provide assistance wherever possible.
