When I first got my most recent pair of digital hearing aids, I sometimes thought, "now if only I could program them - or each of them - with a computer myself, as

there's really no way the audiologist and I in his office can deal with
all of the invironmental acoustics, interference, etc., they may be (and
often are) subject to". But there are other non-technical variables
which are important. From time to time the filters in the hearing aid
will need replacing, as when they become clogged they muffle much
clarifying HF sound. these are too small, even to be seen, by a
non-specialist, or so i was informed. As tim says, however, best consult
with the audiologist who assessed the person's need to have a hearing
aid. The program or kit used is probably specialised: some extra
hardware bits and bobs to calibrate the physical hearing aid from the
laptop (or
PC are included, I would say, based on my experience. the
program/computer will have been given a profile of your hearing, based
on an 'audiogram', etc., and it adjusts the available frequency range
accordingly. The art, then, is for you and the expert to find what you
are most comfortable with.

DeafHear are a bit behind the curve, (and the HSE) when it comes to
hearing aid technollogy.

Hi Michael,

It would be difficult to knowwithout more details on the exact model
of
Siemens hearing aid being used.

I wear hearing aids and I know that audiologists and hearing aid
providers
use computers and software to ajust the settings on the hearing aid.
However, I'm not aware if such software is available to the general
public.

The person involved would probably be best advised to talk to their
audiologist or the practice from which the hearing aid was purchased.

Tim

Hello VICS Members

I have been asked by an acquaintance who is using a Siemens hearing
aid if I
would put out a call to find out if anybody out there can assist.

He wants to know if anyone is using an ordinary computer to control a
hearing aid's frequency?

I myself don't know anything about this area but I imagine that the
hearing
aid may have inbuilt intelligence to interface with a compute.Any help
gratefully accepted.Regards,Michael
