Hi there,

Apologies if this was on the list before.

I'm using an N70 and when the phone rings I press key 2 to find out who is calling. However talks does not always announce it. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Roslyn

There is almost no reason why a PDF in itself shouldn't be rendered accessible, and by 'rendered accessible', I mean for it to be able to be read on the screen with a screen-reader. I think pdf's were meant to be cross-platform documents, not necessarily meant to be put on paper. (Indeed, sometimes you can't even print a pdf because its author has disallowed any copying whatsoever.) The real problem should be where pictures for whatever reason must be included in the pdf, but that's also true for other circumstances wherever pictures must be included.

Now when we scan and recognise an image pdf, the results - more often than not - won't be as good as a text copy of the document would have been.

A simple solution to a thorny problem! I guess the whole point of PDFs is
that they're meant to be read in paper form, rather than on the screen, so
that could be why it's more compatible that way too.

Incidentally, since this subject thread is entitled Information, I just
thought I'd share with you all that I used the new tesco.ie website the
other day and was...on the whole...impressed. There is no longer an access
site but since you navigate the products and your basket by different
headings now it's simple enough...the only issue occured when I went to book my delivery slot which works in a series of unlabelled radio buttons instead of the customary link for the preferred day/time of delivery. That was a bit
trial and error but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Regards,
Louise.

 Yes nicky,
Its true, jaws will not read what is an image, and not text,
But I am amazed that kurzweil, can read the image
so this is as far as I am concerned a breakthrough, , hope
It will help you in your work as well,
Cheers

Paul, the little I know about this I will tell you. I would suspect
that the PDF was an image. Therefore jaws can not read it. I am
possibly having to purchase the same software for my work also to deal
with this problem. Its all to do with optacle character recognition or
OCR. Now, others will be able to explain to you in more detail about
this but just thought I would chime in here and say you are not alone.
Now, that's my useless bit of information for this morning.

Cheers, Nicky.
