Claude you're right, that's exactly how it works. The proxy accesses the
target site on your behalf using an IP allocated in a region in which
access to the content is permitted. So in this case the proxy would
contact the BBC servers using an IP address allocated to a UK-based ISP
/ organisation.

Depending on the number of users / streams going through the proxy at
any one time, this could become a bottleneck very quickly though.

A friend of mine tried it for BBC radio streams in the past but thought
it was more trouble than it was worth, ended up going for Sky Digi
instead.

I need to do more digging, but the solution would be to use a proxy
server server based in the UK. It changes your IP address for one in the
UK (if the proxy is located in the UK). You would need to install a
piece of software on your computer to do this. All I know is that it
slows down your computer a fair bit.
